Glow-Up: Finding My Confidence
I’ve been at Skywalker since the very beginning, and I’ve seen all its ups and downs. I’ve always been a social person, but for the longest time, I struggled with terrible stage fright. I’ll never forget the year I was so overwhelmed during a show that I cried in front of everyone. But the person I am today is more confident. Through a lot of self-development here at Skywalker, I faced my fears head-on and ended this year with a performance I was truly proud of.
So, how did I get from tears to triumph? One of the biggest things was our school's karaoke sessions during breaks. At first, the idea of singing in front of my classmates was terrifying. But after doing it a few times, it became a fun routine. Those small, low-pressure moments built up my confidence and taught me that being in front of an audience could actually be enjoyable. We also do regular dance performances which helped my confidence.
The Thrill of Screen-Free Wins
Away from my phone and computer, my life is full of action. I love surfing, football, basketball, skateboarding, just hanging out with my friends, playing piano, playing with my siblings, sleepovers, family outings, hotel stays, etc. Our school’s screen-free detox week really highlighted this for me. My classmates and I teamed up to complete a massive 1000-piece puzzle and spent hours battling it out in the board game Risk. I also became the captain of the football team and even got to play a match in Uluwatu—an experience I’ll never forget.
Friendship: The Key to a Better Me
The bonds I’ve formed here have been just as important as any lesson. We often stay after school for an impromptu football match or to play games, and it’s in these moments that our friendships have grown the strongest. I was so passionate about it that I encouraged all my friends to join the football ECA, and now we have a regular team that plays together all the time. I’ve also learnt eight new card games that I play regularly with my friends and family. We enjoy banter with each other and it’s become a social norm here at Skywalker, truth is prioritised at Skywalker.
I’ve noticed that since I started putting more energy into these connections, my whole life has improved. I sleep better, my focus in class is sharper, and I just have happier vibes throughout the day. The friendships I’ve made at Skywalker have truly changed me, making me stronger both as a student and as a person.
Future Boss Mode
Looking ahead, my plan is to finish my A-Levels and then study a trade abroad. I’m excited to learn a skilled, well-paid profession while hopefully still making time for surfing and my other passions.
If I could leave you with one piece of advice, it would be this golden tip I learned: “Be your own best friend first, and be the hero of your own story.” It might feel lonely at first, but when you learn to be comfortable with yourself, others will naturally be drawn to that confidence.
